Got Grass Burrs?

I used to spend HOURS pulling out grass burrs in my yard, but then I discovered Corn Gluten! Corn gluten is a natural pre-emergent herbicide, so it needs to be sprayed or applied before the weeds emerge, which is typically January for our area.

If grass burrs and other weed seeds have already germinated and taken root, a late application of corn gluten will only serve as fertilizer for the weeds. After application, corn gluten needs to be watered in, either by rainfall or by artificial watering, within five days of application. Since it needs to be watered in, I like to use a spray like this one I found on Amazon: Bonide Maize Corn Gluten Weed Preventer. You just attach it to your hose and spray so it is easy to apply. I’ve been using corn gluten every year, and last year I found a total of 4 grass burrs all summer, and they were probably brought in by the squirrels! And it is also a natural fertilizer.

In my experience it really works, but you need to apply it soon!
